Jet Iron (Click here for Past Performances)
Jet Iron is an 8 year old bay gelding by Peyrano, an Argentinian sire. Jet raced 46 times starting in November 2005 at Hollyood Park and had a total
of 120K in career earnings. Half of Jet's racing life was spent in the southern California race circuit and Jet concluded his racing days at Golden Gate Fields.
His last race was on May 10, 2010 where he placed (came in second).
He was donated to the Neigh Savers program along with his stablemate Formal Image by trainer Tony Diaz. Tony had given Jet away previously to someone in the
Pleasanton area and even though he specified "no racing" for Jet he soon discovered that Jet was back on the training track at Pleasanton readying for a race.
Tony managed to get Jet back into his care and put him a temporary layup-boarding facility run by former jockey Roberto Gonzalez. He then called Neigh Savers and asked if we would be
able to rehome and retrain him. Thank you for doing the right thing Tony!
We will begin evaluating Jet after he settles into farm life in Clayton. He does come off track uninjured and is a real gentle and sweet horse. He is a little
over 16 h/h. Looking at his conformation he appears more like a quarter horse so should definitely make a nice riding-trail companion.
Jet is shown in the photos shortly after arriving at the farm. With him is volunteer Brittany McClanahan.
Update - June 2012
Jet had a number of setbacks including a quarter crack on the left front and then it was determined he had a seismoid fracture as well on the right front. He
goes in stages of being sound and then not again. Because he probably will never really be right from racing 46 times and Jet will likely just be pasture sound we sent Jet to
The Golden Carrot and Casey O'Connor's excellent care. We believe a permanent sanctuary situation is more in Jet's best
interest at this time.
