"Rockin Naga" or Naga is a pregnant mare by In the Swing (Blushing Groom). She raced 22 times and was born in 1993 making her 20 years old.
Naga raced primarily in southern California and hit all the tracks, Los Alamitos, Del Mar, Santa Anita and Hollywood Park, as well as the summer fair
Naga although bred to a stakes winning stallion, was neglected and dumped at Euclid
Auction in Chino. She and three other broodmares were all that were left of a Thoroughbred breeding farm's living stock,
and those entrusted to the estate felt no need to tend to their rapidly deteriorating feet,
instead leaving the animals to suffer the agonizing pain of standing on the auction lot's concrete
floors for much of the week. While the rest of the estate (numerous trucks, trailers, etc) were sold off for thousands upon
thousands of dollars just a few hundred feet away, two of the four mares -- having stood on the hard concrete for 4 days --
increasingly lost the strength to stand, their legs repeatedly buckling and trembling...for hours upon hours, enduring
visibly unbearable pain. These also happened to be the two rumored to be pregnant.
In the end, it was discovered that only Naga was pregnant and Bucks a Smoken (Sara) was just severely overweight.
Bucks A Smoken was purchased for $150 during the sale, and already appearing to founder.
Late into the evening, Rockin Naga was bought back directly from the kill buyer -- with extremely overgrown feet,
a full set of shoes somehow still hanging on, loudly scraping along the concrete with each excruciating step.
Naga is now at Kimberlee Farms in Somis, as part of the Neigh Savers program.
One of the photos shows the terrible condition of her feet. The photo of her on the auction lot shows how she can barely keep her head up. Another
photo is of Naga with Kim at Kimberlee Farms when she finally knows she's safe and then with Bucks A Smoken on her first turnout at Kimberlee Farms.
Update - January 2013
We are excited that Naga is about to foal in mid March. We will welcome our second Neigh Savers baby. The first was Ronan's War Baby by Ronans'Act. Both
are still at Kimberlee Farms and under the sponsorship of Kim von Disterlo. It will be awhile before Naga is ready for adoption but she is healthy
and her feet are in very good condition. We would appreciate any donations for her baby care and expenses associated with the birth.
The last two photos show Naga quite pregnant but quite unlike most pregnant ladies her feet have dramatically improved. This 20 year old mare can still be
very useful after foaling so please consider her if you want a quiet and sensible gal. Naga foaled out and delivered a beautiful filly named "Meg".
Naga is more or less in permanent retirement. If you are reading this and want a nice pasture ornament please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
