Patience

Patience at her new home

Another picture of Patience in her stall

Patience is a dark bay 11 year old unraced Thoroughbred mare who has survived a trailer crash and the trauma of being dumped at an Equine Blood Bank where she was temporarily adopted by our new friends Dean & Jeannie. A former dressage horse who competed in many events and won ribbons for her owner, because of her tendon injury Patience could no longer jump the higher gates set at the four foot level. However, Patience is a trained and well mannered mare who could be used for riding lessons and lower level dressage. Although Dean & Jeannie bonded with Patience and took her in when she really needed a home they did not have the time or attention to devote to her as they barely have the time to ride their own two horses on a regular basis.

In addition to recovering from her tendon injury, Patience still has an open wound on her side from the trailer accident and was naturally quite traumatized from this accident. Patience was so traumatized in fact, that she would refuse to get into another trailer that resembled in any way the one she was trapped in. Our friends from the Academy of Equestrian Arts, Chuck & Donna Koopman drove to the central coast to pick her up and take her to their facility. However, Patience refused to get into their trailer as it reminded her of the one she was hurt in so Jeannie & Dean drove her to Castro Valley in their own trailer to arrive practically in the middle of the night to get her into her new home. In the end Jeannie & Dean were glad to transfer Patience to her new home as they were able to see the lovely facility where she would next live and this gave them tremendous peace of mind in releasing her to her new owners.

Patience is very well settled now and Chuck has a plan to heal her open scar and then put her back into light dressage and riding after he allows her time to get used to her new environment. The Academy of Equestrian Arts is a full service dressage and training facility nested in the hills on Crow Canyon Road in Castro Valley, CA. The very serenity and peace one feels when driving in is transferred to the horses and Patience is no exception. She is calm and happy and delighted to be turned out to pasture every day as well. Chuck will soon start her into training "from scratch" as he does with every new horse that arrives at the facility and I look forward to reports of her progress. Neigh Savers gives out a huge neigh to both Chuck & Donna as well as Dean & Jeannie.
