Valid Port

Valid Port is a four year old bay gelding by Valid Wager and the stakes placed mare Taffy Davenport. Neigh Savers CEO & Founder, Karin Wagner owned 10% of him.

Unfortunately in February we had to retire "Porter." Track veterinarian Dr. Kim Kuhlmann examined Valid Port and it turned out he suffered a tear of the sesamoidial ligament, which is also known as the XYZ ligament.

Our trainer Armando Lage stated that only 10% of the horses can come back to race from this, so obviously the choice was to retire him immediately. Armando commented on how Porter had been one of his favorites in the barn because of his personality and how he had been an absolute workhorse for the partnership. We purchased him in May 2007 and he had 18 starts, 4 wins, and over $88,000 in earnings. He also raced in several stakes races and at Del Mar and although he didn't win he did hold his own against one time Kentucky Derby contender El Gato Malo.

Valid Port was retired by one of the majority partners to a small farm owned by one of his friends. Porter will be rehabbed for about a year and then probably will end up as a riding horse. Because we are all dreamers Armando says that Ysidro still harbors a faint hope that the horse will be able to race again. However, that is a very faint hope.

Good luck to you Porter and enjoy some well deserved off just being a horse!
