d) Use Your IRA, 401(k) or 403(b) Plan
Retirement plans such as your IRA, 401(k) or 403(b)
plan do not pass through your will. Rather they pass
according to a “beneficiary designation form”
provided by your plan administrator. Using this form
it is very simple to designate Neigh Savers as beneficiary
or partial percentage beneficiary. Both estate tax and
income tax are completely avoided when assets are left
to charity.
In addition, due to a new tax law effective in 2007,
while still living and if you are at least 70 ½
years old, you can transfer up to $100,000 tax-free
from IRA’s to charities like Neigh Savers with
no penalties and no income taxes.
e) Life Insurance Policy
Proceeds of a life insurance policy also pass according
to a “beneficiary designation form” provided
by your insurance company rather than through your will.
Another option is to name Neigh Savers as a contingent
beneficiary of a life insurance policy in case your
primary beneficiaries predecease you.
